The Wii bowling for men on Thursday and women on Friday is attracting both beginners and experienced bowlers.  If you wish to participate, join the crowd at 10 a.m. at the Senior Center.  Everyone will be practicing for the County tournament this fall, so get a head start and “come on down.”

The Braille Institute in Santa Barbara will have their information trailer at the Center on April 27th to help all people in Fillmore who have sight problems.  Their trained experts will help you find items that will improve your sight and quality of life.  Anyone with sight problems should avail themselves of this opportunity.  Dial-a-ride will pick you up for only 75 cents each way if you need transportation.

March 17th a new class for paper crafts will start at 10 a.m. at the Center.  This will include scrap booking and other things you can do with paper.  The new class each Wednesday will be lots of funs, so come and see what Nathalie has to show you.

The first meeting of the new Photo Club will be held at the Center on Friday March 19th, so call and get your name on the list.  This will be a fun activity for any senior interested in taking photos. Bring your camera and get started.

The salad bar on Thursday is proving to be a big success, so the Center now offers a salad bar on both Tuesday with a hot meal, and Thursday with just the salad bar.  You need to call by 11 a.m. to ”get your name in the pot” so there will be enough food.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday the regular nutrition program offers a hot entrée for only $2.25 for anyone 60 or older and, for the “kids” under 60, the cost is $5.00. For those unable to pay, this Federally subsidized program is at no cost.  Every senior in Fillmore should receive one well-balanced meal each day.  The salad bars are sponsored by the Senior Center with public donations.

Everyone should mark their calendar for the next Birthday Celebration on Friday March 26. Cake and coffee and fun will follow the regular meal.

One of the newest laws for highway driving was effective Jan. 1, 2010 and includes a hefty fine when you pass a car pulled over by the CHP for a traffic violation.   NOW you are required to move into the empty lane to your left or slow and pass at only 20 miles per hour in this situation.  All motorists should be aware of this new law and follow it or face a big fine. There has been very little about this for public information so many are not aware of it but it needs to be followed.

Anyone who wishes to have input to the Senior Center Board about future programs should contact the Center at once as plans are being made.

The library is open to any senior who enjoys reading.  They may take any book to read or video and then return it when they have finished.  There is no official “check out” as the honor system is used at the library.

All flu vaccine is available so everyone should arrange for their shot and stay healthy. Although it seems like spring this week, the flu season is not over.

The AARP tax assistance will continue until early April.  The people helping you fill out tax forms are at the Senior Center from 9-11 each Tuesday morning and no appointment is needed.

For information about the new tai chi exercise class on Wednesday, call the Senior Center.  524-4533
