Senior Drivers Program
July 30, 2010
The Camarillo Police Department’s Traffic Bureau, at 3701 E. Las Posas Road, Camarillo, CA, will be hosting a program to educate and inform Senior Drivers about the dangers of driving.
The Senior Drivers Program is a cooperative effort between the Camarillo Health Care District, Department of Motor Vehicles, Camarillo Police Department, senior drivers and their caretaker or family member. For purposes of this class, senior drivers will be required to be 60 years of age or older, caretakers or family members of a senior driver.
In an attempt to remain proactive and not reactive, the Senior Drivers Program is designed to help older drivers, their caretaker or family members, understand the aspects of how age can affect their driving. The Senior Drivers Program will offer lecture, alternate forms of transportation ideas, and handouts. Our goal is to raise awareness and reduce the number of injuries and deaths due to collisions involving senior drivers.
The first class will be scheduled for Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Camarillo Police Department. For reservations call MaryGay San Jose with the Camarillo Police Department Community Resource Unit at 805-388-5155. For questions, call Deputy Juan Cordova at 805-388-5125 or Deputy Mark Bastiaans 805-388-5128. Space is limited to 30 senior drivers, caretakers or family members. There is no charge to attend the program.

Inmate Services Job Fair For In-Custody Inmates
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department has a long-standing commitment in assisting inmates in custody through a variety of inmate services programs in our jails. On Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 8 a.m. to noon at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department at the Pre Trial Detention Facility, 800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura, CA, will be sponsoring the first In-Custody Job Fair for female inmates housed at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura. A Job Fair for male inmates was held at the Todd Road Jail Facility in Santa Paula in 2009.
Ten to fifteen local employers will be invited to participate in this worthwhile event. In addition to employers, invitations will be extended to county and community-based organizations to provide valuable resources and/or information to those individuals nearing release from custody.
Approximately 60 female inmates enrolled in vocational and educational programs will be able to participate in the job fair. This event will give participants an opportunity to fill out applications, turn in resumes and interview with potential employers. All participating inmates have been preparing for the event by attending a variety of in-custody programs that have prepped them with the job skills necessary to interface professionally with potential employers.
The Sheriff’s Department is committed to its mission of providing the programs and resources necessary to reduce recidivism and to assist offenders in becoming productive members of our community. We feel strongly that this can only be achieved if there is a collaborative effort between our department and the community. There are a number of State and Federal incentives available to employers who hire ex-felons. The Sheriff’s Department urges all potential employers interested in participating in this event to contact the Inmate Services Unit at (805) 933-8561.
